I'm really good at crying while eating triscuits.

"Doesn’t saying “everyone is beautiful” just negate unattractive people’s experience of the world? If everyone’s concerned with intersectionality then saying nobody is ugly is as insulting as saying black people’s experiences are not any different than white people’s because we’re all just people, right? I think it’s funny that this is traditionally a platitude expressed in women’s studies in relation to positive body image issues, but it’s Feminist theory that focuses on (and coined) the term intersectionality. Discrimination based on looks is well-documented, as is the opposite effect: that of privilege based on beauty. Ugliness exists, just like skin color or homosexuality or social classes, and to deny it is to deny a large group of people’s perception and experience of a legitimate form of social oppression. The fact that nobody has bothered to say that “everyone is ugly,” the necessary inverse of their chosen argument, is strangely telling to me as well. I’m sure you’d agree. I was surprised you didn’t work that angle yourself."
